Following are the facts about body-focused Repetitive Behaviors you must know:
They are unwanted. BFRBs have negative effects on an individual’s life so they make repeated attempts to reduce them and eradicate and diminish them off. But that task in itself needs a determination on the individual’s part and also professional help can be taken.
They are a cause of significant stress, disruption or impairment in many aspects of life. can impair functioning in all areas of life – at home, school, work, and elsewhere because they demand attention and may lead towards negative outcomes include avoiding routine activities, missed work, social isolation, problems in concentration, and financial strain, among other examples.
They require professional help. BFRBs are one of those disorders that are mostly ignored in our country. The fact is that they are not just simple habits that one can stop by trying hard on his/her own. But these are such conditions that involve complex brain mechanisms that generate urges and repetitive actions of picking or pulling and require specialized help to help learn how to manage and control these actions.
BFRBs indicate to your anxiety and nervousness. Engaging in harmless nervous habits is usual but individuals with BFRBs have less control over their urges and behavior and hence they suffer from a range of physical and psychological consequences such as skin picking can cause scars & hair pulling can cause hair loss, which leaves these individuals vulnerable to criticism. In some cases, the shame associated with these behaviors is the greatest debilitating effect of the condition.
Do you have any symptoms or one of such disorder? and do you agree to these facts?
