The only way to understand history is to read and understand history historically. History read and understood through the lens of personalities, events, religion or prejudice is only misleading and nothing more. In order to draw conclusions from history, it has to be explored with an empty mind. Reading history with a purpose in mind can have dangerous consequences.
It has become fashionable in the subcontinent in general and in the West in particular to read and understand history in the light of specific ideologies (it is good that something is changing now). We must look at history only in the light of historical events. Explore it and gladly accept whatever comes up and draw conclusions impartially in a purely scientific way. This is the path to knowledge.
