Facebook faces mass legal action over data leak.

Facebook cared far more about collecting user's data than protecting the data they collected. They made ten of $billions off the data. So a several $ Billon in fine, seems appropriate.

the "leak" was of public info users put out there for the world to see. How is Facebook liable for someone scraping it?

That's how databases work. They also have a lot more data than what you give them. They track your buying habits, browsing habits whatever they can get into one massive database, and sell the data and advertising. Where do think their $ billions come from? Are users posting photos of their cats?

I know how Facebook works. I'm saying it is hardly a "leak" when users decided to put that info out there themselves.

Again, they collect more info on you than you think.
f they weren't so busy "fact checking" every post they could do their actual job of keeping their user's information safe!!!!!

This is such a great opportunity for me to tell you that Jesus loves you. If you're not on good terms with Him please endeavour to make reconciliation as quick as possible. Because very soon the cry will be made and the bridegroom will come. Please don't be found among those that didn't carry sufficient oil.

Good. Only once there are real consequences will corporations take real care of our data. How hackers can lift tens of millions of users details in one swoop is ridiculous.

Compensation from Facebook??? Don't hold your breath. If you are using social media and not paying for it, you are not a customer. You (and your personal information) are the product!!!

Every user should get compensation. This is not the first time and will not be the last. At the very least they have breached their contract with users to keep their data safe, and likely in most cases - the laws of the countries of their users.
